The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau and Invest Hong Kong unveiled details of Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK 2026 at a press conference on Oct. 23. The event runs Nov. 2-6 in Hong Kong and expects more than 45,000 participants from over 120 economies.
The event marks the launch of the National 15th Five-Year Plan and Hong Kong’s First Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). It will highlight financial empowerment, tech innovation and global expansion, organizers said. It is organized by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau and Invest Hong Kong.
Finance+
Hong Kong ranks first for fintech in the latest Global Financial Centres Index, according to organizers. Its capital markets and global connectivity underpin the “Finance+” vision, which pairs financial capital with technology to scale innovation.
Christopher Hui, secretary for financial services and the treasury, said this year’s theme is “Fintech Nexus: Bridging the World, Building the Future.” He added that the event will showcase how Hong Kong’s fintech capability is boosting the city’s development in gold and commodity markets.
AI+ and startups
Hong Kong is advancing an “AI+” agenda for cross-industry AI integration and has more than 5,200 startups, organizers said.
The Global Fast Track program, a launchpad for high-growth startups and scale-ups, has received more than 700 applications from Asia, Europe, North America, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania.
Global expansion
Alpha Lau, director-general of investment promotion, said the three engines of Finance+, AI+ and global expansion “reflect the city’s strategic priorities: driving innovation and economic development, transforming industries, and enabling multi-market growth.”
The event will welcome more than 30 delegations from mainland China, including Beijing and Shenzhen, alongside delegations from North America, Europe, the Gulf Cooperation Council region and Central Asia, among others.
Speakers and forums
The main conference will take place Nov. 2-3 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with 10 forums including the AI & DeepTech Forum, Digital Assets and Web3 Forum and the AI in Finance Forum.
Speakers include Chief Executive John Lee, Hong Kong Monetary Authority Chief Executive Eddie Yue, Securities and Futures Commission CEO Julia Leung, United Kingdom Financial Conduct Authority Chair Ashley Alder, Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib and Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson.
Participants can also join networking, business matching and community events across Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including a two-day executive tour to Shenzhen.
