Elon Musk plans to give some of his shares to American children and confirmed the Musk Trump Accounts route on X. His pledge came hours after Anthropic tied 5% of its stock to a new public benefit fund.
However, Musk gave no timeline, share count, or company name. A user had suggested SpaceX stock, and Musk agreed with that post.
Why Did Musk Reject Anthropic’s Fund Model?
Anthropic announced the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund on October 18. The wholly owned entity starts with 5% of the company’s shares, subject to stockholder approval.
Based on Anthropic’s $965 billion valuation from May, that stake would be worth about $48 billion. The figure could shift once the shares start trading.
In addition, the board can add up to 2% more for every 50% rise in company value above a set baseline.
Together with founder and employee pledges, roughly 20% of its shares now go to the public good, the company says. Planned uses include direct payouts and work on AI’s labor market impact.
Musk was unconvinced. He urged Anthropic to give the shares directly to the public instead, then said he would do the same. That reply set up the Musk Trump Accounts pledge.
What Would a Musk Trump Accounts Gift Actually Change?
Trump Accounts are federal investment accounts for US children. Eligible newborns receive a $1,000 government deposit, and enrollment has reached 70 million children, according to the White House.
Donors may contribute individual stocks. Recipients may need to hold those shares for five years.
Meanwhile, a user argued that the next generation should own a piece of SpaceX. Musk replied “Yes” when asked whether he meant Invest America accounts, the program’s formal name.
Notably, SpaceX leadership has walked this path before. In July, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband donated company stock to Trump Accounts for children in Central Texas.
Anthropic is heading toward a planned November stock listing, while Musk predicts SpaceX could reach a $100 trillion valuation. In effect, the Musk Trump Accounts plan pits a managed fund against millions of direct owners.
