Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz showed off a box of trading cards for FUZZY, an XRP meme coin, on X on October 22. He said he did not know who sent them, yet thanked the project’s account anyway.
However, Schwartz spent much of May insisting he does not endorse the token, so the unboxing could reopen that debate.
What a Kitchen Unboxing Means for an XRP Meme Coin
The XRP meme coin, listed as Fuzzybear (FUZZY), trades on the XRP Ledger. Its name refers to Fuzzybear, one of the XRP Ledger’s earliest wallets, which dates back to the network’s launch.
FUZZY more than doubled over the past week. Notably, the sharpest jump came on October 20, two days before Schwartz posted.
In the post, he wrote that he was unsure who had gifted the cards, then thanked the FUZZY account with a question mark.
The cards belong to Fuzzycards, a trading card game tied to the token. According to the team, each card NFT can be redeemed for a physical booster pack of five cards.
Each hero card also carries a riddle drawn from XRP Ledger history, the team says.
Earlier this year, Schwartz opened a trust line for the FUZZY meme coin. A trust line is a setting that lets a wallet hold an asset issued on the XRP Ledger.
He called that step routine. Days later, he said that treating memecoins as investments felt distasteful to him.
Can Schwartz Stay Neutral While Holders Read Every Signal?
Still, holders of the XRP meme coin have read meaning into his small gestures before. In May, his FUZZY profile picture switch drew criticism, because changing an avatar involves no technical step.
Moreover, his personal posts travel fast. This month, he debated XRP Ledger lending plans. A selfie he posted in front of a billboard featuring actress Sydney Sweeney also spread widely.
Meanwhile, the Fuzzybear token’s XRP pair ranks as the third-largest automated market maker (AMM) pool on the XRP Ledger, with about $992,000 in liquidity.
AMM pools let traders swap tokens against shared reserves instead of an order book. Only the XRP pairs with CRYPTO and RLUSD, Ripple’s stablecoin, hold more.
For an XRP meme coin, a cameo in a famous developer’s kitchen means free attention. For Schwartz, it shows how hard neutrality gets when holders treat every friendly gesture as a hint.
In the post, Schwartz did not comment on FUZZY’s price or on his earlier view of memecoins.
On XRP itself, he said in September that XRP could overtake Bitcoin by market capitalization one day.
