CNBC host Jim Cramer says he would buy Goldman Sachs shares after Anthropic filed its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus on Monday, a deal that earns the bank fees as a lead underwriter.
Goldman’s windfall rides on a growing supply of artificial intelligence (AI) equity. Alphabet sold $85 billion of stock in June, and a CNBC recap says Meta Platforms plans a $95 billion sale.
Who Earns the Fees on the Anthropic IPO?
In an IPO, underwriters buy shares from the issuer and resell them to investors, keeping a fee on the proceeds.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley lead the offering, the same pairing behind SpaceX’s listing. The recap says Anthropic will trade under the ticker ANT.
Cramer said he was encouraged that no single customer exceeded 10% of revenue in the nine months through Sept. 30.
The filing also flags cloud spending commitments that stay due even if AI demand slows.
Markets welcomed the news Monday. The Nasdaq gained 1%, the S&P 500 rose just under 1%, and chip stocks led the bounce.
Lower oil prices and bond yields also helped technology shares.
Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve is expected to hold rates Wednesday. However, another hike is expected in December, after September’s first increase in three years.
Who Sells Stock Next After Meta and Alphabet?
Meta’s reported sale raises the question of whether other large AI spenders will tap investors for cash.
Cramer pointed to Amazon and Microsoft as the likeliest candidates, since both report earnings this week. In contrast, he called Alphabet unlikely after its June sale.
His charitable trust is long Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Boeing, according to the Investing Club disclosure.
Separately, Dan Niles, founder of Niles Investment Management, has urged holding more cash as those companies near earnings.
Anthropic’s listing would add to Alphabet’s June sale as equity markets, rather than corporate cash flow, help pay for AI buildouts. Whether investors absorb that supply as the Fed tightens may decide how far Monday’s bounce runs.
